In this day and age, it often seems like virtually everyone has dreams of being famous someday. In a lot of ways, that makes a lot of sense since it has long been obvious that famous people have it easy in a lot of different ways.A perfect example of a celebrity who seems to have a lifestyle anyone would envy is Leonardo DiCaprio. After Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill co-starred in The Wolf of Wall Street together, the two actors became pals. As a result of that friendship, fans got the hilarious video of DiCaprio aggressively approaching Hill like a random fan and freaking out his buddy.
While the video of DiCaprio and Hill was hilarious, most people didn't notice that neither star seemed to have a bodyguard on a New York street. Of course, there could have been security off-camera, but there are lots of photos of DiCaprio in public where he doesn't seem to have any security.
That is really amazing considering what happened to DiCaprio in 2005 when he was in the Hollywood Hills.
In early June, DiCaprio was leaving a party held by Paris Hilton's ex-boyfriend Hollywood restaurant owner Rick Salomon when things went horribly awry. According to DiCaprio's publicist, a woman named Aretha Wilson came out of nowhere and attacked the movie star.
"The actor was in Los Angeles during a short break from filming The Departed. While leaving a small private gathering, Leo was attacked by a woman who was trespassing and had repeatedly been asked to leave the property."
When people read that DiCaprio was attacked, they are likely to envision the movie star being slapped, punched, kicked, or tackled. However, what happened to DiCaprio was a lot more serious than that.
As it turns out, Wilson actually attacked DiCaprio with a bottle she used to slash the actor's face. As a result of the injuries DiCaprio suffered, he reportedly had to get 17 stitches to his face and his eye was bloodshot.
If it wasn't amazing enough that DiCaprio got attacked like that, the motivation for what happened is really mind-blowing. According to the police, Wilson claimed she attacked DiCaprio because she mistook him for her former boyfriend. Actors get mistaken for other people all the time but that is crazy.
What Happened To Aretha Wilson After She Attacked Leonardo DiCaprio?
Given the seriousness of the injuries that Leonardo DiCaprio suffered when Aretha Wilson attacked him, it seemed like only a matter of time before she paid a major price. Charged with assault with a deadly weapon, Wilson initially plead not guilty in court.
If Wilson had gone to a full trial, she was potentially facing seven years behind bars, according to BBC. Ultimately, cooler heads prevailed, Wilson struck a deal, plead guilty, and was sentenced to only two years in prison.
By the time Wilson made her deal, she'd already served a year which lead observers to believe she would be released six months after she took the deal. However, it also was believed that Wilson would continue to suffer consequences upon her release.
Since Wilson is a Canadian, it was widely believed that she would be deported due to her crime.
On the bright side, based on the statements that were given to the press, everyone involved was happy with how things played out. After all, Wilson's lawyer Freddy Sayegh said she was happy with the outcome. Additionally, a prosecutor revealed that DiCaprio was pleased that a settlement could be made before a full trial.
Based on everything that is known about the situation, everyone involved wanted to put the whole thing behind them.
